Green Masala Chicken Curry


Each time I make this Green Masala Chicken Curry, I walk down the lane of memories about how did I learn to cook this dish from my mother-in-law. "Although everyone at my mom's place loves to eat chicken curry, but the technique used to make is quite different from my in law's house. I remember this was the second time, me cooking chicken curry and from that moment, the journey continued. Now this dish is part of our every weekend meal. Prepared with green masalas like coriander, garlic ,chili & ginger paste this is a complete meal to satisfy one's appetite. It can be enjoyed on its own or paired with wheat chapati or rice. 

Green Masala Chicken Curry

Ingredients:-

  • 1kg Chicken,5-6 Medium Size Onions, Green Coriander Ginger & Garlic
  • Chilli Masala for chicken
  • Mustard Oil
  • Cloves
  • Star Phool
  • Cinnamon stick
  • Black pepper
  • Jeera
  • Asafoetida (Hing)
  • Red Chilli Powder
  • Coriander Powder
  • Turmeric (Haldi)
  • Bay Leaf
  • Black Cardamom
  • Salt
  • Water
  • Chicken masala

Method:-

Step 1- Clean the chicken with water 2-3 times properly

Step2 - In a jar prepare green masala for chicken by Coarsely blending garlic, ginger, chilli, 2-   3 black pepper, jeera, coriander powder, red chilli powder ( adjust spice as per your  taste) & Water.

Step 3 -  After a few minutes add Coriander leaves & blend

Step 4 - Take a pressure cooker, add 2 tbsp. mustard oil, ½ tbsp. asafetida, 2 bay leaves, 1black cardamom, 2-3 cloves, 1-star Phool, cinnamon stick; whole red chilli, sliced onions, haldi powder & salt. Cook till onions are golden brown.

 Step 5 - Once the onions are golden brown add chicken pieces. Let the chicken release water.

Step 6 - After 5mins add green masala, chicken masala(Adding tomato to chicken is optional).Stir & Close with the lid by adding some water on top.

Step 7 - Check-in between the gravy consistency. If you feel the gravy is less add boil water.

Step 8 - If you feel the chicken is raw you can also pressure cook with 2-3   whistle & off the flame

Step 9 – Your chicken curry is ready to serve.
